In July 2011, Connie Ledesma, HPHA’s Resource Development Coordinator, travelled to Washington, DC to accept the Ashoka Changemakers’ Sustainable Urban Housing Prize for our project, “Urban Solutions for Buenos Aires,” currently underway in the neighborhood of La Boca.
During the Ashoka event, Connie participated in various training sessions with other award-winning organizations. The workshops were offered to provide the tools necessary to implement the innovative and practical solutions developed by the participating NGOs, covering a range of topics that included how to design of eye-catching and efficient presentations to bring to potential investors and how to encourage greater participation in the community.
While in DC, Connie also found a new expert advisor from the Inter-American Bank of Development to consult on our La Boca project. We are excited that he will be coming to Buenos Aires this month to work with us on financial solutions.
Connie also fit into her busy schedule a visit to our good friends at the Habitat affiliate in Chesapeake, Maryland. She gave them a plaque of recognition for their incredible support of our organization over the years. Connie was able to meet with the team and personnel that will participate in the “Build Louder” brigade coming to Buenos Aires in October 2011. They were very eager to learn more about assisted rentals and how they could help our project in La Boca during their visit.
