HPHA staff have been working hard interviewing families in the communities in order to move towards our goals for the 2011 financial year. Santa Fe aims to provide 12 seed homes, 65 progressive home improvements and 8 “Habitat Tent” events. In La Matanza, Buenos Aires, the goals are 12 seed homes 90 progressive home improvements and 12 Habitat Tent events.
In the neighborhood of Acería, Santa Fe Province we began 4 progressive housing improvements in the month of March, to bring roofs and bathrooms to the families of Taborda Abaca, Villagra Rodriguez, America Farias and Susan Espinoza. These families have already received 50% of their HPHA credit and this Saturday the HPHA committee will visit families to approve their work plans and the remaining 50% of the credits. We have secured finance for 3 additional housing improvements in the same region, for which we recently selected new families with the help of the local Evangelical association, Rayo de Luz, and will soon start work.
In Recreo, Santa Fe, we have two seed houses underway, and funding for one more. This community currently hosts 37 HPHA homes and a plaza covering 2 lots. Local volunteers are being trained from the beneficiary families in Recreo to assist work brigades and “Habitat Tent” events.
In La Matanza, Buenos Aires we have identified more than 30 new families with a need that meet Habitat Argentina´s selection requirements, and we are now looking for funding for these housing solutions.
In the months of April and May 2011, we hosted 2 Habitat Tent events open to the community of 22 de Enero, La Matanza. Those who participated were motiva
ted by the level of participation and resolve of the community. These events are key to our methodology to build “Much More Than Houses” through the empowerment of the community with skills in the self-management of finances and housing improvements.
On a final personal note, the family of Victor, Rosanna and their son Lucas from La Matanza, who are on the finishing touches of their new HPHA seed home, now have a new addition to their family: Facundo! … a timely arrival!
