Presente, weekly newspaper of the city of Luján, and El Civismo, its biweekly counterpart, both published articles about HFHA’s work in Barrio Loreto, Jáuregui. Twenty-five of HFHA’s employees and friends (including a group of Global Village volunteers, the GV bus driver and his adorable children, and Juan Ochoa from the HFH Regional Office in Costa Rica) traveled to Luján to celebrate the house dedication for the Lattaro-Asselborn family.
The house is part of the “Construyendo Hogares (Building Homes)” project for families in possession of land but without means to build. Diego and Carolina Lattaro-Asselborn bought their own plot and maintained it for two years before they were able to take advantage of an HFHA loan and begin building. A brigade from Credit Suisse played a major role in the process, providing both volunteer labor and financing for the construction loan. The family of four is especially thrilled about their new residence, as they had been living in a small house with Diego’s extended family, including five other adults.
The emotional ceremony recognized the housing improvements completed by seven other families as well. HFHA also presented diplomas to those families who have completed prompt payment on their loans; this money will be placed back into a rotating fund, making more resources available to offer to additional families. Diego and Carolina proudly opened their home to the visitors and local community members and were especially excited to give our international friends a chance to try some incredible homemade Argentine delicacies!
