This month an important meeting with the families of Recreo, Santa Fe was held to discuss responsibility and participation within the community and in interactions with Habitat. Representatives from 25 families attended.
The theme of mutual respect, commitment and communication guided the meeting, as Habitat representatives listened to members of the community speak about two families that were not complying with their contracts with HFHA. The families in attendance were called upon to generate responsibility among themselves and a greater consciousness of how personal decisions affect the community, taking new pledges to be active participants in the community, report changes in the neighborhood to Habitat, and share the information generated at the meeting with other families who were not able to attend.
The methodology of Habitat Argentina stresses empowerment of families and neighborhoods, and this meeting demonstrates that despite the inability of two families to comply with their contracts, the rest of the families are able to come together and mutually decide the best plan of action for the community. It was an important step for the families of Recreo, indicating a profound change in how they view their own neighborhood and use their own power to direct the future of their community.
