HPHA is planning to carry out a Thematic Improvements project in the Mocovi neighborhood of Recreo. The ongoing Incremental Improvements program provides small loans and technical assistance for home improvements. The new Thematic Improvements program uses the same methodology for a group of neighbors who share similar housing needs. Working on parallel home improvements allows for greater technical efficiency, opportunities for lower material costs, and a natural mutual help structure.
HPHA is currently carrying out a survey of the Mocovi neighborhood in order to analyze possibilities for the thematic improvements project. Many of the neighborhood’s residents are descendents of the indigenous Mocovi tribe. As one of the poorest areas in Recreo, there exist many homes that lack running water and have sanitary issues, are susceptible to rain and flooding, and lack the space for a family to live decently.
Once the survey is completed, 10 families will receive micro-credits and technical assistance for their Thematic Improvements.
