Evelyn Zapata and her husband Nelson Almeira built thier home in 2008 as part of the “Rise and Build” project. Enthusiastic about her experience and the community development activities being carried out in Recreo, Evelyn has helped to lead many of the neighborhood improvement efforts. As a way to become even more involved, Evelyn went through training to become a volunteer teacher for the HPHA Financial Literacy workshops. Holding a recent session in her home, Evelyn made the experience meaningful for the 8 families that participated by including her own personal touches. Drawing from her own experiences, Evelyn was able to explain financial concepts in ways that make sense to her neighboors. The pictures below were taken by Evelyn during the event.
